Schools & Groups

The National Centre for Citizenship and the Law (NCCL) is the education provider for  the Galleries of Justice Museum. All of our activities are designed to engage your learners in History and Citizenship, with particular focus on the National Curriculum your pupils are studying.  Through experiential learning, students are encouraged to embrace the opportunity to learn about real objects in real places outside the classroom.  Bringing History and Citizenship to life, the NCCL team are here to teach about the past, for students to act in the present and empower them to change the future. This section will link you to the NCCL website which provides information about educational activities and programmes at the Galleries of Justice Museum and contains contact details for the NCCL team.  Click here to find out more or call 0115 9939 811 to discuss your school, college or university booking.

Visit our prestigious Victorian Civil Court room, old Gaol, Police Station and HM Prison Service Collection and learn about Crime and Punishment throughout the ages. With a prison on site since 1449 and a Court room on site since 1375, NCCL in partnership with the Galleries of Justice Museum have become a first choice educational resource for many teaching professionals across the United Kingdom!

Activities include mock trials, debates, object handling, talks with museum professionals and much more.

All NCCL learning activities are developed with the emphasis on ‘learning by doing ‘to bring subjects such as History, ‘British Values’ and Law to life. Visit the NCCL website to find out more
