This section offers advice on which activities Further and Higher education students can engage with based on colleges who have visited in the past.
To make your learning more tailored to suit your students needs you can choose up to 3 activities to do during your visit. The cost of the visit correlates to the number of activities you choose:
1 activity = £6 per pupil
2 activities = £8 per pupil
3 activities = £10 per pupil
If there is anything you would like to discuss with a member of the Learning and Access team please Contact us
The activities have been split into the following sections:
Galleries of Justice
Visit the court room, old Gaol, and HM Prison Service Collection. Learn about Crime and Punishment throughout the ages.
Historical Mock trials
Choose from a large selection of mock trials inspired by real cases or events from history. All mock trials allow your students to take the roles of court officials, witnesses, defendant and jury who act out the trial in the Victorian court room.
Object Handling
Back by popular demand, Object Handling sessions for Secondary schools, with all new Citizenship or History focused activities specifically designed for KS3, KS4 or KS5.
You can now choose Object Handling as one of your activities your students participate in during their visit to the Galleries of Justice. You can choose whether the group focus on Historic items or objects relating to citizenship themes. There are three sets of worksheets available depending on the level of your group (split into the main Key Stages for Secondary and post 16 education). When booking for an object handling session please specify which focus you would like the session to have (History or Citizenship) and which key stage resources would best suit your group (KS3, KS4, or KS5).
Contemporary mock trials
Update your students legal literacy with a contemporary mock trial. A mock trial allows your students to take on the roles of court officials, witnesses, defendants and where applicable the jury and see the current consequences young people will face if they break the law.
Talks with museum staff
Book a talk with a museum professional. Choose from Customer Service, Marketing and Leisure and Tourism and now including a mock trial follow-up workshop.
Cabinets of Crime exhibition
Dr Isaac Massey Presents His Grand Emporium of Criminal Curiosities from the Cabinets of Crime is a fascinating and engaging exhibition which looks at seven aspects of criminal justice throughout the years. It introduces age old debates and suggests that current crime epidemics are not so new as the media would allow us to believe.
