The following mock trials offer the chance for your students to explore the contemporary court system. Students will learn how the criminal justice system deals with young people aged 10-18 who break the law.

Darren Burton

Darren has been accused of causing criminal damage though graffiti on a public space in Bulwell, Nottingham. Your students will take the roles of the magistrates, defendant, witnesses and lawyers and act out the mock trial in the Youth Court.

Scott Green

Scott has been discovered with a quantity of drugs at a party. Along with an older young person Scott is being tried in the crown court. Your students take the roles of the court officials witnesses, and defendants. The student jury will decide if Scott is guilty of intent to supply the drugs and if so what sentence he will receive.
